Women Veterans Health Care Improvement Act
U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin introduced, on November 7, 2007, the Women Veterans Health Care Improvement Act, a bill to expand and improve VA health care services for women who have served, particularly those who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF). The bill has been referred to the House Armed Services.
Herseth Sandlin, who serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, said, “This bill responds to a specific and growing need to provide health care services for women veterans, especially those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.” She noted that more than 177,000 women have served our nation in Iraq and Afghanistan since September 2001 and nearly 27,000 are currently deployed in these wars.
