Success in New York and National NAACP Event

National would like to take this opportunity to thank several dedicated NABVETS members who made our recent New York/NAACP trip a big success. Those members are Brothers and Sisters Job Mashariki, Wendy McClinton, Joe Wynn, William (Bill) Treadway, Doctor AV Hankins, William Sims and several other members from our New York and Washington DC chapters. Each one of these individuals committed time and resources to assure that the planned events went off without a problem. Joseph Wynn and his crew did an excellent job of pulling the Veterans Civil Rights Resolution together and having it read and approved on the NAACP Convention floor. He also coordinated the Veterans Exhibit piece which was also a big success. Wendy McClinton, VP, Black Veterans for Social Justice (BVSJ) with the blessing and guidance of BVSJ, CEO, Job Mashariki, provided an excellent, tour of their many veterans housing facilities,  they also conducted a Veterans Workshop and hosted a special Veterans Town Hall meeting relating to concerns of Black veterans They also assured that public and private officials and VIPs were on hand to address those concerns. It was a spirited discussion. You could feel the spirit and camaraderie throughout this five day event. BVSJ was also provided transportations services for the National NABVETS delegation between Newark, NJ and New York, NY daily. We thank them for their hospitality.

Special thanks to AV Hankins MD and her crew from the ACES Museum and the NABVETS Philly, PA Chapter. Dr. Hankins also stepped up to the plate to assist one of our NABVETS disabled VSOs from Georgia who was in need of emergency housing accommodations during the Convention.

We were so impressed with the Veterans Town Hall meeting hosted by BVSJ that we are encouraging all of our chapters around the country to conduct Veterans Town Halls in your areas and submit the issues and the outcomes of those issues to National. We will also be sending photos of this event soon. Again thanks everyone for a job well done.
